As this is the first year of the Wales International Balloon Festival we are giving all participating pilots the following benefits:

In summary, to participate in the Wales International Balloon Festival, balloon pilots must have:
i. If less than 25 hours total P1 time, at least 10 P1 hours in 2016, or
ii. If between 25 and 100 hours total P1 time, at least 5 P1 hours in 2016, or
iii. If 100 hours or more, at least five flights of not less than five minutes duration in the preceding thirteen months, or have passed a PPL GFT.

Each balloon must be in possession of the following documentation: C of R, Insurance Document, ARC, Balloon Log Book, C of A (initial issue), last annual inspection report, Flight Manual for the balloon.

Each pilot must be in possession of the following documentation: Pilot licence, Medical certificate, LRO certificate.

All balloons will enter the Wales International Balloon Festival in one of three categories. If you have any doubts about the appropriate category for your balloon, please contact the festival office for advice.

Private Entry/Special Shape (Free of Charge)
A Private Entry applies to all balloons under 120,000cu.ft and unmarked or sponsored but whose sponsors do not pay the pilot for his/her services and do not pay anything other than expenses to cover the balloon’s participation in the Festival. The entry is free and will only require a security deposit if requested.

Commercial Entry
A Commercial Entry is applicable to balloons flown by commercial pilots being paid for their services and all balloons under the control of balloon of balloon or owned by balloon operating companies and balloons that are flying their sponsors passengers at the Festival, irrespective of whom the balloon is lent to or flown by. Cost of entry is free for the inaugural 2016 festival.

Passenger Balloon (AOC Holder)
A Passenger Balloon entry is applicable to all conventional shape balloons that are flying fare-paying passengers or balloons of 120,000cu.ft or more. Cost of entry is free for the inaugural 2016 festival.

Night Glows
There will be a single night glow on the evening of 17th September. Participation is by invitation only but pilots are expected to participate in the night glow if required. All balloons entering the night glow must be equipped with VHF radios allowing reception on 122.475 MHz.

Security
Limited general security will be on site from Friday 16th September until the morning of 18th September 2016. Specific security requirements can be arranged by contacting the festival office, in advance, for a quotation. Participants are responsible for the insurance and safekeeping of all equipment or articles brought onto site and no responsibility is accepted by the Wales International Balloon Festival.
